When old scars start to hurt or butterflies swirl in the gut. When the breath is shallow and rapid, jagged or caught in the throat. When there’s tension in the muscles or a heaviness cloaked over the entire body. When the breath flows freely with ease into the belly. When the skin flares red and angry. When the cue for movement or deep restorative rest is present. When there’s a long pause held between each breath. When the shoulders are up towards the ears or forward protecting the heart space. When you leave a person or a place feeling a sense of expansion or deflation. The body tells us everything we need to know. Are you listening when she whispers? Or will you wait until she screams.
